The Jefferson Memorial was officially dedicated by President Roosevelt on April 13, 1943, the 200th anniversary of Jefferson birthday. You can find this memorial in Washington D.C. west of Potomac Park, on the shore of Potomac River Tidal Basin and surrounded by cherry blossom trees, a gift from Japan in 1912.
Creation
The Pope at that time had planned the statue but when they were constructing it the Pope died. But his surviving partners, Daniel P. Higgins and Otto R. Eggers took over construction of the memorial.
Inside
In the memorial they have a statue of Thomas Jefferson is inside of his memorial. Inside there is also some parts of the Declaration of Independence in there like “We hold these truths”, “ God who gave us life”, “I am not an advocate for frequent changes”, and “ Almighty God created the mind free”.
Fact
Died on July 4th, 1826 because he was ill and it is now Independence Day. He and John Adams died on the same day.
